Nearly 118K families affected by LPA, ‘habagat’

ABOUT 117,676 families in several regions have been affected by the southwest monsoon (habagat) and the low pressure area (LPA) that continue to bring moderate to heavy rain showers, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Friday.

In its latest situational report, the agency said the families, composed of an estimated 572,997 persons, are residents of 429 villages in Mimaropa, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Over 5,395 families are aided inside 53 evacuation centers while 65,739 families or 327,001 persons are being helped outside.

The Office of Civil Defense earlier said affected families include those displaced and those not needing transfer or removal from their residence.

The number of reported deaths remained at seven, with five confirmed so far.

The four validated deaths were in Zamboanga Peninsula and one in Northern Mindanao.

The agency is still confirming reports of one death in Davao Region and another one in BARMM.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the LPA’s trough will cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Western Visayas and the rest of Mimaropa.

The same weather condition will be experienced in Mindanao and the rest of the Visayas due to the southwest monsoon. (PNA)
