THE state weather bureau said on Wednesday afternoon a low pressure area (LPA) has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and has a high potential to develop into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said it will be named Wilma once it develops into a tropical cyclone.
The LPA was located 1,105 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon as of 2 p.m., the state weather bureau said.
PAGASA expects the LPA to bring heavy rains across Northern Samar, Eastern Samar from Thursday to Friday.
It is also forecast to cause heavy rainfall in Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar and Biliran over the weekend.
Currently, parts of the country are experiencing rains due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone, northeast monsoon and shear line.
PAGASA earlier said one to two cyclones are expected in the country this month. (PNA)
