A low pressure area east of Davao City has intensified into Tropical Depression Ada, state weather officials announced Wednesday morning.
In an advisory issued at 8 a.m. on Jan. 14, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the weather disturbance has been upgraded to a tropical depression and will now be monitored closely as it moves over the Philippine area of responsibility.
Authorities have advised residents in areas potentially affected by the system to stay alert for further updates, especially as tropical depressions can bring heavy rainfall that may trigger flooding and landslides.
Local disaster risk reduction and management offices are also expected to begin preparedness measures as PAGASA continues to assess the cyclone’s development.
Further advisories will be issued as new information becomes available.
