AS the Philippines braces for another typhoon season, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has released the list of names to be used for tropical cyclones entering the country’s area of responsibility in 2025.
PAGASA uses “Filipino-sounding” names to help the public more easily remember storm alerts and strengthen disaster awareness, in line with global best practices recommended by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
According to the WMO, giving storms human names improves public communication and disaster response, as names are more recognizable and easier to recall.
