THE last two days of 2024 are forecasted to be rainy for several areas in the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In its 5 a.m. weather advisory on Sunday, Pagasa attributed the rains to the shear line and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).
The shear line occurs where warm and cold winds converge, while the ITCZ results from the merging of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres.
On Monday, December 30, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, and Palawan.
By Tuesday, December 31, similar rainfall is forecasted in the Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.
Pagasa warned residents in affected areas to prepare for localized flooding, especially in urbanized, low-lying, and coastal zones. Landslides may also occur in areas prone to these hazards.
Additionally, the northeast monsoon or “amihan” will bring cloudy skies, rain, and thunderstorms across much of the country on Sunday.
As the year comes to a close, Pagasa reminds the public to stay updated on weather advisories and to take precautions to ensure safety during the New Year celebrations.
