THE southwest monsoon or “habagat” will continue to prevail in the Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao and will bring rainshowers and thunderstorms, the state weather bureau reported Sunday.
In its 4 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the northern portion of the provinces of Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Aklan, Antique and Negros Occidental will experience monsoon rains due to habagat.
Residents in the area are warned of possible landslides due to heavy to intense rains.
The provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate and Batangas, as well as the rest of MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, and Negros Island regions will have occasional rains.
The weather bureau advised those living in affected areas to be cautious of possible landslides and floods that can be caused by moderate to heavy rains.
Metro Manila, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zambales, Bataan, the rest of Visayas, Calabarzon and Bicol Region are expected to have cloudy skies, with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
Landslides and flash floods may occur in these areas during moderate or at times heavy rains, PAGASA warned.
The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms which may also cause flash floods and landslides during severe thunderstorms.
The Visayas and other parts of the country, including the western section of Southern Luzon and the western, northern and eastern sections of Mindanao, are expected to experience strong winds, with rough waters at 2.8 to four meters high.
Moderate to rough waters at 2.1 to 3.7 meters high are forecast to prevail in the rest of Southern Luzon and Mindanao, while slight to moderate waters in the rest of Luzon.
