MOST reas in the country will experience rain showers Thursday due to the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat’ affecting the western sections of Luzon and the Visayas, the weather bureau said.
Monsoon rains will cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Region 4-A (Calabarzon), Region 4-B (Mimaropa), Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula and the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.
Moderate to heavy rains in these areas could result in flash floods or landslides, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
Meanwhile, in an advisory, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said PAGASA forecasts thunderstorms that will bring heavy rains over Negros Island.
The rains could generate lahar, muddy streamflows or muddy run-off draining the southern Kanlaon edifice, Phivolcs said.
Meanwhile, PAGASA forecast isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms to prevail over the rest of the country.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail across the archipelago, PAGASA said. (PNA)
