SEVERAL areas in Luzon will experience rain showers due to the southwest monsoon or habagat and the frontal system, the weather bureau said Thursday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said habagat would cause scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Ilocos Region and the provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro and Palawan.
Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the frontal system will also prevail over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
Moderate to heavy rains in those areas could result in flash floods or landslides, PAGASA said.
The rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.
Moderate winds and moderate seas will prevail across Luzon.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas.
Meanwhile, despite the onset of the rainy season, PAGASA still forecast several areas that could experience danger-level heat index.
Heat index or what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air, could peak at 47 degrees in Aparri, Cagayan and Baler, Aurora province, and 46 degrees in ISU Echague, Isabela and Casiguran, Aurora.
Heat indices of 42 to 45 degrees are forecast in these areas:
Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; Virac, Catanduanes; Guiuan, Eastern Samar; Butuan City, Agusan Del Norte; Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Dagupan City, Pangasinan; MMSU, Batac, Ilocos Norte; Bacnotan, La Union; Sangley Point, Cavite; Catarman, Northern Samar; Catbalogan, Samar; Tacloban City, Leyte; Ambulong, Tanauan Batangas; Infanta, Quezon; Alabat, Quezon; Daet, Camarines Norte; CBSUA-Pili, Camarines Sur; Borongan, Eastern Samar; Maasin, Southern Leyte; NAIA; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; Masbate City, Masbate; Juban, Sorsogon; Roxas City, Capiz; Mambusao, Capiz; Iloilo City, Iloilo; Dumangas, Iloilo; Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental; Panglao International Airport, Bohol; Mactan International Airport, Cebu; Siquijor, Siquijor; VSU-Baybay, Leyte; Dipolog, Zamboanga Del Norte; and Cotabato City, Maguindanao.
Under danger level or 41°C to 51°C heat indices, heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely.
Prolonged exposure to the sun could also cause heat stroke, PAGASA said. (PNA)
