29 areas to experience danger-level heat index Saturday

TWENTY-nine areas in the country will experience sweltering temperatures due to danger-level heat indices while the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will continue to bring rains across Mindanao, the weather bureau said Saturday.

Heat index is what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity combines with air.

A peak heat index of 45°C is forecast in Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, according to the 5.am. bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The following areas will also see danger-level heat indices:

● Laoag, Ilocos Norte – 42°C
● Dagupan City, Pangasinan – 43°C
● Batac, Ilocos Norte – 42°C
● Bacnotan, La Union – 43°C
● Aparri, Cagayan – 42°C
● Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – 43°C
● Echague, Isabela – 43°C
● Baler, Aurora – 42°C
● Subic Bay, Olongapo City – 43°C
● Camiling, Tarlac – 42°C

● Tayabas, Quezon – 42°C
● Sangley Point, Cavite – 44°C
● Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas – 43°C
● Infanta, Quezon – 43°C
● Mulanay, Quezon – 42°C
● Los Baños, Laguna – 42°C
● Coron, Palawan – 43°C
● San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 44°C
● Puerto Princesa City, Palawan – 43°C
● Cuyo, Palawan – 42°C

● Daet, Camarines Norte – 42°C
● Legazpi City, Albay – 43°C
● Masbate City, Masbate – 42°C
● Pili, Camarines Sur – 43°C
● Roxas City, Capiz – 42°C
● Iloilo City, Iloilo – 43°C
● Dumangas, Iloilo – 42°C
● Catarman, Northern Samar – 42°C

Heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely under danger-level heat indices of 42°C to 51°C.

Meanwhile, the ITCZ will continue to bring scattered rains and thunderstorms over the whole of Mindanao.

Flash floods or landslides may occur in the island during moderate to heavy rains, PAGASA warned.

The easterlies will also cause scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Samar and Southern Leyte.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will continue to prevail across the archipelago. (PNA)
