‘Imburnal girl’ to undergo drug rehab, says DSWD

THE woman who recently went viral for emerging from a drainage canal in Makati City will undergo rehabilitation, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Monday.

Rose, who appeared in an episode of “Pinoy Pawnstars” hosted by Boss Toyo, admitted in the interview that she sometimes uses illegal substances.

In a statement released by the DSWD on June 9, Pag-abot Program Officer-in-Charge Deputy Program Manager Marilyn Moral confirmed that Rose’s substance use was known to the agency’s social workers.

“Our social workers for Pag-abot program knew of Rose’s occasional use of illegal substance and as part of the conditions, she will undergo rehabilitation,” said Moral.

She added that the DSWD does not discriminate against individuals and families living on the streets, and instead aims to help them improve their quality of life.

“Our social workers in partnership with other duty bearers handling the case management will see to it that there will be positive change in the lives of Rose and her partner so that they become productive members of the community ready for reintegration after the necessary interventions,” Moral added.

DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, for his part, expressed confidence that their intervention would help transform Rose for the better.
