NU issues apology, sanctions players over post-game conduct

THE National University (NU) Nazareth School on Tuesday apologized for the conduct of its boys’ volleyball players after their UAAP Season 88 semifinal win over UST. NU said the behavior shown in viral photos and videos did not reflect the school’s values and emphasized that sanctions have been issued and corrective measures are underway.

Two Bullpups drew criticism online for making gestures toward the UST Junior Golden Spikers, who had just been eliminated. NU said it has already spoken with the athletes and coaches involved to address the incident.

The players have since released their individual apologies:

Ronnie Millan said: “I would like to apologize for my actions during the game… I understand that my behavior was not appropriate. I assure you that I will handle my emotions better moving forward and uphold the values of sportsmanship.”

Joem Favila wrote: “It wasn’t my intention to mock anyone… nadala lang po ako ng drive to win. I didn’t mean anything and kung ano man nagawa ko po, I wanna say sorry po.”

Kiel Biscocho added: “I will take accountability… Hindi po tinotolerate ng kahit sino man ang mga ganung actions. Pasensya na po. Nadala lang po ako ng emotion ko.”

NU said it is reinforcing its athlete formation programs to prevent similar incidents in the future.
