ACTOR Romnick Sarmenta appeared to poke fun at calls to boycott products endorsed by host-comedian Vice Ganda, posting on X that he had ordered from a fast food chain the latter promotes.
“Sa ingay ng pagtawag… napa-order ako. Kahit di naman masyadong gutom,” Sarmenta wrote on Aug. 11, drawing a flurry of reactions online.
Some netizens cheered him on. “Mag-order rin ako para lalo mainis mga DDS,” one replied. “Support local, support comedy,” another said.
Others, however, were unimpressed. “Proud na proud sa petty victories,” one critic commented. Another accused him of “making everything about politics.”
The boycott calls stemmed from a recent joke by Vice that Duterte supporters claimed was aimed at former president Rodrigo Duterte, now detained in The Hague, Netherlands, over a crimes against humanity case.
Sarmaenta, known for voicing his political opinions, has recently criticized public officials he said were twisting the law. In June, he made a pointed remark about being “innocent but hiring 16 lawyers,” a comment netizens linked to Vice President Sara Duterte’s defense team in her impeachment trial.
