Poe: Gloria Romero is PH ‘cultural institution’

THE Senate has passed a resolution honoring the life and legacy of veteran actress Gloria Romero, who passed away on January 25 at the age of 91.

Senator Grace Poe, who sponsored Senate Resolution No. 1287, described Romero as a “cultural institution” when the measure was approved on February 3.

“She was not just an actress—she was the actress. Her contributions have left an indelible mark on our nation’s cultural identity,” Poe stated.

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada called Romero’s passing a great loss to Philippine entertainment, referring to her as a “pillar” of the industry.

Meanwhile, Senator Risa Hontiveros praised her as a trailblazer whose career, spanning over seven decades, paved the way for future generations.

Romero, known as the “Queen of Philippine Cinema,” earned multiple acting accolades for films like Magnifico, Dalagang Ilocana, and Tanging Yaman. In 2024, she was recognized as an FDCP Lifetime Achievement Honoree.
