NATIONAL Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Nora Aunor was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
A state funeral, complete with a 21-gun salute, was held before the interment, with supporters joining in as Aunor’s classic songs played during the rites.
Some fans were allowed to throw flowers into the grave, while others—like Carlita Baluyot, who came all the way from Ilocos Norte—climbed trees for a final glimpse of their idol.
Senators Robin Padilla and Bong Go, as well as actor Phillip Salvador, were among those who attended the funeral.
Aunor’s remains now rest in Section 13, Row 28, Plot B—an area reserved for National Artists and Scientists.
The state necrological service earlier took place at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila, organized by the NCCA and the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
