Maymay Entrata opens up on mom’s cancer battle

KAPAMILYA actress and singer Maymay Entrata has revealed that the two most important women in her life — her mother and her grandmother — are battling life-threatening illnesses.

In an interview, Maymay revealed that her grandmother, who raised her in Cagayan de Oro, is undergoing dialysis. Her biological mother, Lorna, who had been working in Japan to support the family, is now battling cancer.

“Mas magaan sa pakiramdam. Dalawang taon na, matagal ko na hindi na-open. Ayoko kasi ng pity,” she said. “Pero tinanggal ko na ‘yun, it is time maging totoo din ako kung ano nangyayari sa personal ko na buhay para alam nila nangyayari sa akin. Sana you help me pray sa dalawa kong nanay.”

She admitted it wasn’t easy to speak about her private life, having always tried to protect herself by keeping her emotions guarded.

“Dalawa sa nanay ko may pinagdadaanan. Hindi ko masabi-sabi. Kasi una, hindi easy to share for me personal stuff. Lagi ako naglalagay ng walls. Mahirap din pala kasi isa sa way mawala ‘yung mabigat na mararamdaman ay magpakatotoo. ‘Yung buong ako, buong mararamdaman ko on cam and off cam,” she said.

The singer said she has been flying between Japan and Cagayan de Oro to be with her “two mothers,” even if it meant putting her career on hold at times.

“Andito ako sa point na hangga’t may oras ako makapiling ko nanay ko, gagawin ko. Palipad ako Cagayan, kahit paulit-ulit gagawin ko. Sobrang mahal na mahal ko sila. Sobrang hirap. Sabay, dalawang nanay ko,” she said.

She added that her mother returned to the Philippines two months ago, but was rushed to the hospital again just the night before the interview.

“Galing lang ako sa ospital. Isa ngayon sa pinapasalamatan ko, nakauwi siya. Everyday tine-take time ko hangga’t maaari, andyan ako kasama siya. Tapos kagabi lang sinugod namin sa ospital,” she recalled.

Rather than sympathy, Entrata asked fans for prayers for her mother and grandmother’s healing.

“Please, ‘wag ‘iyo ‘ko kaawaan. Kaya ayaw ko sana i-share. Pero sana pagdasal n’yo kami,” she said.
