John Estrada to Priscilla Meirelles on divorce: ‘Bakit mo ginawa ’yan?’

BRAZILIAN beauty queen Priscilla Meirelles confirmed that she and actor John Estrada are no longer married, revealing that she had filed for divorce in Brazil.

In an interview on “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda” on Feb. 13, Meirelles said, “We are no longer married.”

She explained that although they were married in the Philippines in 2011, she had their marriage registered in Brazil, making it valid in both countries. As a Brazilian citizen, she said she had the legal right to file for divorce.

“Bilang isang foreigner, I am entitled, it’s my right to divorce. Because in my country, divorce is allowed,” she said.

Initially, Meirelles planned to file for annulment in the Philippines, but the process was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Changes in the law later allowed her to register the marriage herself in Brazil and proceed with divorce.

“The marriage is no longer valid. I don’t see myself sharing a life with that person anymore. I fought for 14 years and it got to the point where hindi ko na kaya,” she said. “I realized… that the best thing for me is to really move forward mag-isa.”

She also shared Estrada’s reaction: “He was not happy. The first sentence he said was, ‘Pri, bakit ginawa mo ‘yan?’”

The former couple has one daughter.
