Hajji Alejandro, ‘Kilabot ng Kolehiyala’, dies at 70

HAJJI Alejandro, the iconic singer known as the “Kilabot ng Kolehiyala” during the 1970s, has passed away at the age of 70.

Alejandro’s daughter, Girlie “GR” Rodis confirmed the sad news on social media.

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad and Son, Angelito ‘Hajji’ Alejandro,” the official statement said.

“At this time, we kindly ask for privacy as our family grieves this tremendous loss. We appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult time.

“To God be the glory.”

The singer’s death follows a battle with Stage 4 colon cancer, which was revealed by his partner of 27 years, Alynna Vasquez, in an interview with journalist Julius Babao.

Alynna shared that Hajji underwent surgery in February 2025, but post-surgical complications led to seizures caused by an infection, necessitating an ICU stay.

By March, however, Hajji showed signs of recovery and was recuperating at home.

The family also received an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues alike, honoring Hajji for his contributions to music and his lasting impact on the entertainment industry.

Hajji Alejandro’s daughter, singer Rachel Alejandro, also provided an update on her father’s condition during the Film Development Council of the Philippines’ “Parangal ng Sining” event on April 11.
