Fans defend Zeinab Harake over ‘wrong grammar’ bash

SOCIAL media personality Zeinab Harake is facing online criticism following her appearance at the GMA Gala 2025.

In an interview with alongside her husband, basketball player Ray Parks Jr., the couple was asked about their dream travel destination.

“‘Yung honeymoon trip na gusto talaga namin is from Europe,” Zeinab replied.

Ray added, “Yep, we want to go to Europe.”

Her use of the phrase “from Europe” drew quick reactions from netizens, with some mocking her English. “’Wag na sana mag-English,” one wrote, while another quipped, “Pwede namang mag-Tagalog na lang eh, okay lang ‘yan… nasa tono at pronunciation pa rin magkakaalaman.”

But many also came to Zeinab’s defense. “Sa Pilipinas laging issue ‘yung English grammar. Paano kung hindi forte ‘yung English? Nakakawala na rin ng self-esteem magsalita ng English kasi parang maraming nakabantay sa’yo,” one supporter said. Another added, “At least tinatry ni Zeinab, yun ang pinakamahalaga. Yung iba habang buhay na hindi mag-English sa takot nilang magkamali at mahusgahan.”

Zeinab has previously admitted that English is not her strength. She even sought help from singer Donnalyn Bartolome to write her wedding vows, and credits her husband Ray for guiding her with the language.
