FORMER Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia once again denied claims that their hit song “Spoliarium” was about TVJ (Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon) and the late actress Pepsi Paloma.
During the press conference for the band’s documentary “Combo On The Run,” Ely dismissed the long-standing rumor as completely false. “It’s not about TVJ. It’s not about Vic Sotto and the rape,” he said.
He expressed disappointment over the speculation, saying it deeply upset him. “This is a sad thing. I was really heartbroken when that thing came out because I was such a huge fan. They are my heroes, and I wouldn’t dream of writing a song to tarnish my heroes. So that’s the most ridiculous rumor,” he added.
Ely reiterated, “And [I] will maintain until today that it’s not about them, it’s not about Pepsi.”
For years, an urban legend has claimed that “Spoliarium” alludes to the 1982 rape case filed by Pepsi Paloma against Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and Richie D’Horsie—an interpretation that Ely has consistently denied.
