ACTRESS Dina Bonnevie could not hold back her tears after watching a video showing Filipinos trudging through deep mud and floodwaters.
“Naiyak ako kasi iniisip ko baka magkasakit sila,” she said, describing how she felt while watching the viral clip. “Hindi ko masikmura na may mga taong ganitong naghihirap, habang may iba naman na nakikinabang sa kaban ng bayan.”
In a candid conversation, Bonnevie also shared her thoughts on today’s so-called “nepo babies” or children of corrupt politicians and businessmen.
“Alam mo kung bakit pinapanood ang mga nepo babies, at ’yung mga pini-flex kung ano ang meron sila? That’s just a sign of covetousness,” she said. “You want to covet what is not yours. Which is a sin. Thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s goods!”
“Diyos ko, minsan nga lumalabas ang katarayan ko,” she added with a laugh. “Parang sa loob-loob ko, ‘Diyos ko makapag-flex ang nepo baby na ito, maganda ka ba? Hahahahaha! Eh kahit retokehin ka ng limang beses, hindi ka pa rin maganda, eh! Parang my God, sino ba ang doktor mo? Magpa-doktor ka muna bago ka mag-flex!’”
She acknowledged that her own children with Vic Sotto, Danica and Oyo Sotto, may also be considered nepo babies, but she said the label should come with a sense of responsibility.
“Di ba, ang sarap din naman na kung meron kang ipagmamayabang ay dahil galing sa hirap,” Bonnevie said. “Pero ang point ko lang naman, if all the young people would focus on, number one, their studies; number two, good moral values.”
“Manood ka, ano ba ang mga pini-flex nila diyan? Naghahalikan! Sumasayaw na kita ang kuyukot ng puwet. And people follow this, mga Instagram na halos nakalabas na ang buong boobs,” she lamented. “Ano ba ’yan? Bakit gusto mo ’yan? Doon mo makikita na iba na ang values ng tao!”
Bonnevie said she hopes “nepo babies” would instead use their platform for good.
“Gamitin mo to give back!” she said. “Kumbaga, parang Miss Universe, na you use your crown to promote charity, to promote good things. Sana ganun lahat ng attitude ng mga nepo babies, na parang mga beauty queen attitude na I’m here to spread love, to do good things!”
