DIRECTOR Darryl Yap will not issue any statement regarding the cyberlibel case filed by actor-TV host Vic Sotto, his legal counsel Atty. Raymond Fortun said.
According to Fortun, the information filed by Assistant City Prosecutor Elvin Keith Barrios before the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court was sufficient, and no reaction from the director was necessary at this time.
Yap is facing two counts of libel under Articles 353 and 355 of the Revised Penal Code, in relation to Section 4 (C)(4) of Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. The charges stem from the controversial teaser of his film “The Rapists of Pepsi Paloma,” which allegedly tarnished Sotto’s reputation.
Out of 19 complaints filed by Sotto, only two were elevated to court while 17 were dismissed by the Muntinlupa City Prosecutor’s Office.
Bail was set at P10,000 per count. Yap is expected to post bail this week. His camp said no arrest warrant has been issued as of now.
