CHARACTER actress Aleck Bovick has publicly embraced her LGBTQ+ identity, revealing that her current partner is also part of the community.
In an interview on Lutong Bahay, Bovick, 40, shared that while she had felt different since childhood, she only fully understood her gender identity last year.
“Bata pa lang ako, meron na akong napi-feel, napapansin sa sarili ko, pero ‘di ko siya pinansin. Tuloy-tuloy lang. The way ako kumilos, the way ako pumorma, the way ako magsalita,” she said.
As she approached 40, Bovick sensed something was missing in her life.
“Hindi ko alam ano ‘yun. Para kang may hinahanap, anong mali, parang may kulang. Tapos ayun na. ‘Yun na,” she recalled.
Asked if she is currently in a relationship, Bovick answered, “Yes, nasa LGBT world tayo ngayon.”
She admitted having initial doubts about coming out.
“Nung una, yes. Totoo ba? Tanda ko na ha. Ano na lang sasabihin nila? Paano ‘yung ganito? Totoo ba ‘to, mako-confirm ko ba sa sarili ko?” she shared.
Eventually, she chose self-acceptance over fear.
“Keber. Kung ganito talaga ako, kailangan kong tanggapin, kailangan ko siyang i-accept,” she said. “Hindi ka naman selfish kapag pinili mo rin namang mahalin ‘yung sarili mo.”
