P33 minimum wage hike in Ilocos Region to take effect on Nov 7

PRIVATE sector workers in the Ilocos Region would get a PHP33 increase in their daily minimum wage.

In Wage Order No. RB 1-23 dated Oct. 9 and made public Monday, the Ilocos Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) motu proprio granted the measure, raising the daily minimum wage to PHP468 for the non-agriculture sector employing 10 or more employees.

It will be PHP435 for the non-agriculture sector, which employs less than 10 employees, as well as the agriculture sector.

The board likewise issued Wage Order No. RB 1-DW-05, increasing the monthly minimum wage of domestic workers by PHP500, raising their monthly wage rate to PHP6,000.

The wage orders will be published on Tuesday and take effect on November 7.

The wage order is expected to directly benefit 170,143 minimum wage earners and about 349,112 full-time wage.

Salary workers earning above the minimum wage may also indirectly benefit as a result of upward adjustments at the enterprise level, arising from the correction of wage distortion.

On the other hand, the wage increase for domestic workers is expected to benefit 99,024 workers, approximately 9 percent (9,104) of whom are on live-in arrangements.

The last wage orders for workers in the private establishments and domestic workers in the region were both issued on Oct. 10, 2023 and became effective less than a month later. (PNA)
