SINABI ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) na umabot na sa 616 aftershocks ang naitala matapos ang magnitude 6.4 na lindol sa Abra.
“As of 7 a.m., we have recorded 616 aftershocks and pito dito are felt, yung maximum na nai-record ay magnitude 4.8,” sabi ni Phivolcs officer-in-charge (OIC) Teresito Bacolcol.
Idinagdag ni Bacolcol na hindi aftershock ang nangyaring lindol matapos namang naunang maranasan ang magnitude 7 na pagyanig noong Hulyo 27, 2022.
“Ang aftershock is one degree lower than the main shock, so the main shock was magnitude 7, on July 27, we would expect yung aftershock lang around six, eh ang nangyari was magnitude 6.4,” dagdag Bacolcol.
Idinagdag ni Bacolcol na naitala ang lindol malapit sa West Ilocos Fault System.
“Historically we recorded at least 40 earthquake from 1589 to 1995, that areas is very seismically active,” aniya.
