NOVEMBER is the “last of the month” time that you will do your best, at dito madalas nagwa-wind down muna ang mga Pinoy sa pag-aapply sa trabaho locally or abroad. Bakit kamo? Ang 13th month pay at kung anu-ano pang bonuses na ibibigay (may mga companies na bumabawi na rin, by the way), sayang!
However, in preparation for the chance of a career lifetime (kung dumating na ang career na para talaga sa iyo, or ang overseas job na pinakahihintay mo), this is your opportunity to plan magkano ang iiwan mo sa iyong matatanggap na bonuses, pare makasurvive ka sa bagong career na tatahakin mo.
Paulit-ulit mo na siguro nababasa ito sa mga career advices, pero let me give you a different approach…..ready ka na ba talaga to “take the leap?” Iiwan mo ang comfort zone mo,, and take the challenge? Pero bago mo gawin mga ito, check mo muna ang mga sumusunod:
1. Loans or utang – credit card man, or mga loans na iyong ginawa during the pandemic.
Makakabayad ka na ba bago mag-adjust sa gusto mong career or work? Kasi isa ito sa mga factors na baka hindi ka maka-adjust nang maayos sa work mo with the fear na ang dami mong financial responsibilities to tackle.
Is this really the best time to leave your current job and join the uncertainty of being a newbie sa company, regardless if rank and file, supervisor or manager level ka? Makakadagdag din ng stress na iisipin mo na kailangan mo ang trabahong ito at hindi mo afford na mawalan ng work. So better address this first.
2. Be prepared for the worst – leaving a job and getting a new job requires you to be physically, mentally and emotionally ready.
Dito kasi makikisama ka ulit sa mga bagong workmates, need mo mag-blend ulit sa bagong culture, yung previous habits mo need mo na rin i-adjust and you have to make sure na makakapasa ka sa probationary period mo para assured na magiging regular ka.
3. Assets and liabilities – assets meaning you know you got what it takes to get the job, and you are fit to do it. Liabilities, have you identified your weaknesses and you know how you are going to work around it lalo na sa new work environment mo? Think about it.
4. Muni-muni bago humirit – heto yung pagplaplanuhan mo talaga if decided ka na talaga to venture to a new job – talaga bang walang growth ang career mo sa current mong company?
Nagtatanong ka ba sa supervisor mo what you need to improve on, or how you can be an asset sa team? Are you still interested to grow with them or talagang wala nang passion sa “mission and vision” ng company?
Marami pang factors kang pwedeng i-add sa list na sa tingin ko ay base na rin sa current situation mo. But for now, hopefully ang mga naisulat ko sa taas ang maaaring makatulong sa inyong nagbabasa. Till our next column.
