POLICE arrested a woman who allegedly stole cash from the room of a priest at an orphanage in Minglanilla, Cebu.
Police said the incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14.
Initial investigation showed the priest discovered at around 5:30 p.m. that his room had been forcibly opened and more than P199,000 was missing.
Police said the amount represented accumulated donations from Misa de Gallo and New Year’s contributions.
Closed-circuit television footage reviewed by investigators reportedly showed the suspect arriving near the priest’s room and taking a set of picklock tools from her bag.
Authorities said she then used the tools to open the door and take the cash.
The priest immediately reported the incident to the Minglanilla Police Station, prompting a follow-up operation that led to the suspect’s arrest later that evening.
Authorities said they were able to recover part of the stolen money, amounting to P15,000. Police also recovered the set of picklock tools and a motorcycle that investigators said had been purchased using the stolen funds.
The suspect is now in police custody and is expected to face theft charges.
