Senior accused of witchcraft burned alive in Bukidnon

A 75-YEAR-old woman was beaten and burned alive by a man who accused her of being a “mambabarang” in a remote barangay in Malaybalay, Bukidnon.

Police identified the suspect as a 37-year-old male who later surrendered to authorities after committing the gruesome killing.

According to investigators, the suspect claimed that the elderly woman had “bewitched” him, prompting him to attack her with a coconut frond. He allegedly struck the victim repeatedly until she lost consciousness.

The suspect then reportedly piled dried leaves over the victim’s body and set her on fire, resulting in her death.

Authorities believe the suspect may have been mentally unstable at the time of the incident. He was said to have a history of illegal drug use, according to local police.

Charges are being prepared against the suspect, who is now in police custody.
