Lightning kills 2 cops in Mindoro

TWO police officers died after they were struck by lightning while on duty inside a camp in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro on Wednesday night.

In a statement, Brig. Gen. Roger Quesada, director of the Mimaropa regional police, identified the fatalities as Patrolmen Laudelino Samarita Lomio II and Ruzzel Jay Ferrer Fontarum.

The two were reportedly inside the camp when lightning struck during heavy rainfall. They were rushed to the Mindoro Medical Center but were declared dead on arrival.

“Their tragic loss is a painful reminder of the silent risks our personnel face in service to the nation,” Quesada said.

He added that the Police Regional Office-Mimaropa would extend full assistance, benefits, and honors to the families of the fallen officers.

“We extend our deepest condolences to their families and loved ones,” Quesada said.
