A SIX-year-old boy died from suspected rabies on June 13, more than a month after he was bitten by a pet puppy and completed a full course of anti-rabies vaccination.
Reports said the boy was bitten on May 7 and immediately received the first dose of vaccine at a district hospital. He completed subsequent doses on May 12, 16, and June 4.
However, on June 12, the boy developed a fever and later began vomiting. He reportedly showed symptoms consistent with rabies and died the next day.
The boy’s family has called for an investigation into the vaccines administered and whether there was any lapse in handling or treatment.
The Department of Health has not issued a statement as of this writing.
