VP Sara excited to return home: ‘My task is done’

VICE President Sara Duterte on Friday said she is ready to return to the Philippines after completing her task in The Hague, where her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, is currently detained.

Duterte told reporters she had already delivered a key document and would head home once her travel arrangements are finalized.

“Yes, everything’s organized with the lawyers… and there’s already a system for the family with regard to visiting here in the detention units… so yes… and that last document that was needed of me, I delivered it this morning to the person inside who asked for it. So yes, my task is done. Well-organized,” she said.

“Yes, yes, I am excited to go home… I’ll just book the travel arrangement,” she added.

The Vice President has been in The Hague since March 12, a day after the former president was arrested on the request of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which is investigating his controversial war on drugs.

She earlier said she would return to the Philippines once the travel arrangements for other family members were finalized, as they plan to take turns visiting the elder Duterte while he is in detention.

According to the ICC, Duterte—who served as Davao City mayor before becoming president—allegedly established, funded, and armed vigilante groups responsible for the killing of suspected drug offenders. He was flown to The Hague immediately after his arrest.

Duterte appeared via video link before ICC judges on March 14 and is scheduled to attend a hearing on September 25 to determine whether the charges against him will be confirmed.
