Senators back Marcos’ call for unity, urge end to political division

SENATE leaders on Tuesday expressed support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call to put politics aside and focus on addressing the needs of the Filipino people, viewing it as a possible turning point toward national unity and progress.

Senate President Francis Escudero praised Marcos for acknowledging that the 2025 midterm elections highlighted the public’s demand for a government focused on real-life issues rather than political drama. He emphasized the need to “build bridges, not burn them,” and commended the President’s openness to reconciling with Vice President Sara Duterte and her family.

Senate Deputy Majority Leader Joseph Victor Ejercito echoed this sentiment, saying political infighting has only held the country back. Despite the deepening divide between camps, he remained hopeful for a positive development and urged both sides to prioritize unity over conflict.

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada also welcomed the President’s message, saying it was time for elected officials to focus on governance and nation-building.

Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel said the President’s tone was fitting for a leader, stressing that as head of the nation, Marcos’ call for reconciliation and national healing is a step in the right direction.
