Senate set to convene as impeachment court on June 3 — Chiz

SENATE President Francis Escudero said Thursday that the impeachment court that will try Vice President Sara Duterte will be formally convened on June 3, 2025

But before that, Escudero invited the House of Representatives’ panel of prosecutors to appear before the Senate on June 2.

In a letter dated May 19 addressed to Speaker Martin Romualdez, Escudero said the Senate will receive the House prosecutors at 4 p.m. on June 2 to present the seven Articles of Impeachment against Duterte in open session.

“The Senate shall be convened as an impeachment court at 9 a.m. on June 3, 2025, for the purpose of issuing the summons and other relevant orders,” the letter read, reaffirming the timeline previously laid out by Escudero in February.

Key dates in the impeachment proceedings include:

Vice President Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives on February 5 on charges that include culpable violation of the Constitution, bribery, graft and corruption, betrayal of public trust, and misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds allocated to her office and the Department of Education from 2022 to 2023.

Duterte has challenged the impeachment proceedings before the Supreme Court, filing a petition on February 18 to block the trial.

Despite the pending case, Senate President Escudero previously expressed confidence that the impeachment trial could be concluded within three months.
