SPEAKER Martin Romualdez assured the public on Monday that the House of Representatives will continue its investigations into the rising prices of rice, other food items, and electricity, aiming to address long-standing issues affecting Filipino families.
“Tuloy ang imbestigasyon sa presyo ng bigas at kuryente. Hindi tayo aatras sa laban para sa bayan,” Romualdez said during the resumption of the 19th Congress after its holiday recess.
He emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, vowing to conduct oversight hearings in the coming weeks to ensure public funds serve their intended purpose.
The House, he said, will investigate smuggling and hoarding that inflate food prices and scrutinize P206 billion in disallowed expenditures by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to push for energy reforms aimed at reducing electricity costs.
Romualdez also committed to looking into other pressing issues, including P11.18 billion worth of expired medicines and underutilized PhilHealth funds.
“Our promise is clear: public trust is sacred, and this House will never betray it,” he stated.
The Speaker highlighted the chamber’s achievements in 2024, including the passage of 183 measures into law.
He stressed that economic growth, while notable, should directly benefit ordinary Filipinos.
