TWO key lawmakers expressed confidence that Speaker Martin Romualdez will continue to lead the House of Representatives in the upcoming 20th Congress, citing his role in advancing President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s legislative agenda.
Deputy Speaker David Suarez and House committee on agriculture and food committee, Rep. Mark Enverga, dismissed speculations of a leadership shake-up.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Suarez highlighted the Speaker’s achievements, noting how the House under Romualdez has delivered on critical legislation over the past three years.
“There’s a need for continuity. Many of us trust Speaker Martin’s leadership,” Suarez said, adding that the House must push forward key initiatives like lowering rice prices and strengthening agriculture.
Enverga, for his part, said he has not heard of any serious moves to replace Romualdez and reiterated the House’s commitment to the Marcos administration’s goals.
Rumors of a possible change in leadership surfaced amid meetings among lawmakers, but Suarez clarified that these were simply for organizing ahead of the next Congress.
Under Romualdez, over 13,000 measures were filed, with more than 1,300 approved, including 166 laws. His party, Lakas-CMD, remains the House’s dominant bloc.
