Robin Padilla: Resolution to bring Duterte home is ‘best for the country’

SENATOR Robin Padilla defended the Senate resolution he co-authored with Senators Bong Go and Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa seeking the repatriation of former President Rodrigo Duterte from the Netherlands, where he is currently detained by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

In a Facebook post, Padilla emphasized that the measure was driven by concern for the nation and not political maneuvering.

“Kapakanan ng inangbayan ang intensyon ng resolusyon sa pagpapauwi kay Tatay Digong. Hindi pulitika!” Padilla wrote.

“Tanging reconciliation lamang ang daan para umasenso ang Pilipinas, hindi ang nakaugalian ninyong paninira! Style n’yo bulok,” he added.

Padilla’s resolution came under fire from critics, including Mamamayang Liberal party-list Rep. Leila de Lima, who questioned its legal relevance.

“Sa tingin ko, political posturing na lang ‘yan kasi wala na ho sa kapangyarihan ng gobyerno natin na pabalikin siya,” De Lima said, pointing out that Duterte is under ICC custody and beyond the jurisdiction of Philippine authorities.
