MALACANANG on Tuesday said it respects the filing of complaints against public officials, stressing that such actions are part of the democratic process enshrined in the Constitution.
In a statement, the Palace said it trusts Congress, as a co-equal branch of government, to carry out its duties with integrity and in accordance with the rule of law.
Malacanang issued the statement after lawyer Andre De Jesus filed an impeachment complaint was against Marcos Monday morning at the House of Representatives.
House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil confirmed the filing and the endorsement by Deputy Minority Leader and Pusong Pinoy party-list Rep. Jernie Nisay.
The statement also emphasized that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. remains steadfast in upholding the Constitution and expressed confidence in the strength of the country’s democratic institutions.
While the legal and political processes take their course, the Palace said the President will continue to govern and ensure that public services remain uninterrupted.
This is the first impeachment case initiated against Marcos since he assumed the presidency in 2022.
