AKBAYAN Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña praised comedian-host Vice Ganda for his controversial “jet ski holiday” joke, which angered pro-Duterte supporters after it was delivered during a recent concert with Regine Velasquez.
“Speaking truth to power is most potent when it makes people laugh. Ibig sabihin tagos na tagos at tusok na tusok. Laughter is not only the best medicine, it’s also the best wake-up call,” Cendaña wrote on Facebook Sunday night, Aug. 10.
“Mabuhay ka, Meme Vice Ganda, salamat sa paninindigan. #Jetski,” he added.
Cendaña further quipped: “At kung sakaling ma-persona non grata ka, keri lang ’yan. Dahil sa aming puso, Meme, ikaw ay persona bonggang-bongga.”
The lawmaker described Vice Ganda’s comedy as principled and thought-provoking, adding it serves as a pointed reminder of the uncritical support former president Rodrigo Duterte still receives despite his stance on China’s incursions in the West Philippine Sea.
Duterte is currently detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC) over charges of “crimes against humanity.”
