SENATOR Imee Marcos has denied allegations that she was behind a supposed attempt to unseat the leadership of the Senate, following remarks attributed to Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, February 8, Marcos rejected claims linking her to an alleged move to orchestrate a leadership shakeup in the Senate.
“Gusto ko lamang pabulaanan ang kumakalat na pahayag na ako ang kumumpas sa balasahan sa Senado—hindi ako,” Marcos said.
She added that members of the minority bloc could attest that she was among the last to learn about the issue and to take part in discussions surrounding it.
Marcos also downplayed the significance of internal disagreements in the chamber, saying these were not a major concern for her as long as they were driven by the “right reasons.”
Speculation about a possible Senate coup resurfaced recently amid reported internal movements and discussions involving the chamber’s leadership.
Sotto earlier said he was prepared to step down as Senate president should his fellow senators decide to replace him.
According to Sotto, such political situations were nothing new to him, noting that he had faced even more intense pressure and maneuvering when he served as majority leader during the term of former Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.
