PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has dismissed his sister, Senator Imee Marcos’ explosive claim, that the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte was part of a coordinated government move to bring down the Dutertes.
“Everyone’s entitled to their opinion—I disagree,” the President said tersely when asked about his sister’s statement.
Senator Imee, who leads the Senate inquiry into Duterte’s March 11 arrest, alleged a “whole-of-government effort” was behind the move and called the arrest “illegal.”
She has since asked the Ombudsman to probe top officials, including Justice Secretary Boying Remulla, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, and PNP Chief Rommel Marbil.
Malacañang, unfazed by the senator’s remarks, reiterated that Duterte’s arrest was lawful and aligned with the country’s obligations to Interpol.
The former president is now detained at The Hague and faces charges before the International Criminal Court related to drug war killings. His confirmation hearing is set for September 2025.
