NANINIWALA si Senador Grace Poe na dapat ding pagtuunang ng pansin ng Department of Education ang mental health ng batang mag-aaral.
Ayon sa senador kinakailangan ng holistic response ang tumataas na bilang ng suicide incidence sa mga mag-aaral.
“Schools must not only focus on honing the intellectual capabilities of our learners, but also on their mental resilience especially coming out of a pandemic,” ayon sa pahayag ni Poe.
Sinabi ni Poe na kailangan mag-develop at palakasin pa ng bawat educational institution ang mga programa nito na nagbibigay ng payo at nagpapalakas sa mental health ng kanilang mga mag-aaral at maging teaching at non-teaching personnel nito.
“We trust that the DepEd will fortify partnerships with reputable associations for mental health and psychosocial support programs in schools,” dagdag pa ni Poe.
“Mental health issues should no longer be stigmatized.”
A total of 404 learners from public schools committed suicide in 2021 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic which affected students’ mental health, an official of the Department of Education (DepEd) told a Senate panel yesterday.
Matatandaan na nitong nakaraang linggo sa pagdinig ng Senate committee on basic education at health at finance, sinabi ni Education Assistant Secretary Dexter Galban may 404 mag-aaral ang naitala na nagkitil noong 2021
Bukod dito, may 2,147 naman ang nag-attempt na mag-suicide at 775,962 ang humingi ng guidance counseling ng nasabi ring taon. Mahigit sa 28 milyon ang mag-aaral sa bansa.
