Ex-SolGen Hilbay backs Cayetano snap election call, proposes Robredo to lead transition

FORMER Solicitor General Florin Hilbay has expressed support for Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s proposal to hold a snap election, but with certain conditions.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Hilbay said he agrees with Cayetano’s idea that all elected officials — from the President down to members of Congress — should resign and be barred from running for one election cycle to restore public trust in government.

However, Hilbay added that the transition should be led by former Vice President and now Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo.

“Let Leni lead and assume the position of national steward. Allow her to set up a Constitutional Commission to revise the 1987 Constitution. Then have a plebiscite and election with all (previous) incumbents barred for one election cycle,” he wrote.

Hilbay, who served as Solicitor General from 2014 to 2016, was a staunch supporter of Robredo’s 2022 presidential bid.
