KINUMPIRMA ni Pangulong Duterte na sinibak niya ang lima hanggang anim na miyembro ng Gabinete dahil sa korupsyon.
Sa kanyang talumpati sa Cebu, bagamat hindi pinangalanan, sinabi ni Duterte na kabilang sa kanyang tinanggal ay dahil sa ginawang reclamation project sa Maynila.
“When I became President, I heard reports of corruption. So, si (Environment) Secretary (Jim) Sampulna is new because I fired them all. I won’t name him because it’s painful for them for this to have happened. But you know, whether you helped me during the elections or contributed something good, I am very thankful,” sabi ni Duterte.
Pinalitan ni Sampulna si dating DENR secretary Roy Cimatu na naunang nagbitiw sa puwesto.
“I’m not fond of announcing to the media pero in the process, I’ve fired five or six Cabinet members because of corruption,” dagdag ni Duterte.
Aniya, ipinag-utos na niya kay Sampulna ang pagpapatigil sa lahat ng aplikasyon para sa reclamation projects.
“Alam mo dito sa gobyerno na ito, ‘yung projects gaya ng mga reclamation, only the billionaires dabble in that. Those who don’t have money for capital, only their ability to talk, that can never be allowed because it would end in corruption because if you joined the process with just a small capital, eventually you will sell that to the big businesses. So I said, ‘Get him,” ayon pa kay Duterte.
