HINIMOK ni outgoing Senate President Vicente Sotto III ang papasok na administrasyon na i-reshuffle ang mga opisyal ng Department of Agriculture (DA) sa gitna ng mga alegasyon ng smuggling activities dito.
Ito ay matapos pangalanan ang ranggo ng mga opisyal ng DA at Bureau of Customs na nagsisilbing mga protektor ng mga smuggler ng mga produktong agrikultura, na nakapaloob sa isang intelligence report na isinumite sa Senado.
“Dapat (i-reshuffle). ‘Yun ang pinag-usapan namin nung padating nating pangulo [Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.],” sabi ni Sotto.
Si Marcos, na nakatakdang manumpa bilang ika-17 pangulo sa Hunyo 30, ay siya ring uupong Agriculture secretary.
Kabilang sa mga pinangalanang opisyal na diumano’y sangkot sa smuggling ay sina Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco, Agriculture Undersecretary Ariel Cayanan, Bureau of Plant Industry Director George Culaste, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Director Eduardo Gongona, at Customs Commissioner Leonardo Guerrero.
Nasa P667.5 milyong halaga ng gulay at agri-fishery products ang naipuslit sa bansa mula 2019 hanggang ngayong taon, ayon sa ulat.
