SUPPORTERS of former President Rodrigo Duterte are calling for a boycott of Procter & Gamble (P&G) products after a joke referencing the detained former chief executive was made during a company event.
At the gathering, an alleged employee asked improv group SPIT, “Pwede bang tawaging OFW ang isang mayor na nagtatrabaho sa ibang bansa?”
The question was widely believed to be a dig at Duterte, who recently won the Davao City mayoral race while in detention at The Hague for alleged crimes against humanity.
The exchange, which drew laughter from the audience, has since sparked online outrage from the DDS (Duterte Diehard Supporters).
“Walang respeto. Tuwang-tuwa sila sa lungkot ng ibang tao,” one netizen wrote.
“Boycott P&G. Mas maganda naman ang produkto ng Colgate-Palmolive at Unilever,” said another.
“Bagsak din yan. Karma is real,” another comment read.
Others questioned P&G’s internal policies. “Wala bang orientation ang mga empleyado niyo? What kind of corporate event allows mocking elected officials?” one user said.
“Kung empleyado mo ‘yan, parang sinabuyan mo ng gasolina ang bahay mo tapos ikaw din ang mag-aapoy,” another post said.
As of this posting, P&G has not issued a public statement addressing the backlash.
