Conflict of interest? Erice questions credibility of impeachment complaint vs Marcos

CALOOCAN City Rep. Edgar Erice questioned the credibility of the impeachment complaint filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., pointing out an apparent conflict of interest involving the lawyer behind the case.

Erice noted that lawyer Andre de Jesus, who filed the complaint, previously served as legal counsel for First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos in a 2024 disbarment case against lawyer Glenn Chong.

“It is strange that de Jesus filed the complaint against BBM when he is the same lawyer who defended FL Liza Marcos in November 2024, filing a disbarment case against Atty. Glenn Chong for vilifying the first lady. From defender to complainant,” Erice said.

The lawmaker also questioned the substance of the impeachment complaint, saying it “can easily be dismissed” for lack of form and merit.

He referred to the fourth page of the document, which alleges that the government’s decision to allow the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte constitutes kidnapping and betrayal of public trust.

“The 4th page impeachment complaint filed by Atty. Andre de Jesus can be easily dismissed as it lacks form and substance,” Erice added, emphasizing that the filing raises more questions than answers.
