SEN. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa questioned incoming Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla’s decision to prioritize the investigation into Vice President Sara Duterte’s confidential funds.
In a radio interview, Dela Rosa said he respected President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s choice to appoint Remulla as the new Ombudsman but expressed concern about his immediate priorities.
“Wala tayong problema diyan dahil prerogative ‘yan ng Pangulo kung sinong pipiliin niya among the shortlisted candidates,” he said. “Pero bakit sa dami ng problema ng bansa, lalo na sa flood control projects, ang first order of the day ay imbestigahan agad si VP Sara Duterte?”
Remulla earlier announced that his office would review allegations of misuse of confidential funds by the Vice President’s office.
Meanwhile, Davao City Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte criticized Remulla’s appointment, claiming it was meant to shield government officials from scrutiny.
“It makes sense. Sa dami ng problema ng mga nakaupo ngayon, kailangan nila ng lahat ng tulong para mapagtakpan sila,” Duterte said in a statement. “Even at the cost of making a mockery of our Constitution. God bless the Philippines.”
Remulla succeeds Samuel Martires, who retired recently, according to the Presidential Communications Office.
