IGINIIT ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri na hindi sangkot si Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez sa ilegal na tangkang pag-angkat ng 300,000 metrikong tonelada ng asukal.
“I absolutely do not believe that [Rodriguez] is part of this plan of coming out with an illegal order to import sugar,” sinabi ni Zubiri.
“Why? Because he was the one who took [the matter] to the president and told the president about this particular plan, that they already signed an import order without the president’s approval,” dagdag pa niya.
Tinutukoy ni Zubiri ay ang Sugar Regulatory Board Order No. 4 na pinirmahan ni dating Agriculture Undersecretary at Sugar Regulatory Administration Leocadio Sebastian noong Agosto 8 sa ngalan ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Ang importation order ay nilagdaan din ng tatlong dating mga opisyal ng SRA, na nagbitiw na sa kanilang mga puwesto sa gitna ng kontrobersiya.
“If he was part of this plan, why would [the executive secretary] tell this to the president?” aniya ni Zubiri.
