TIKTOK resumed service for United States users on Sunday after briefly going offline due to a federal ban that President-elect Donald Trump vowed to delay via executive order on his first day in office.
Trump announced on Truth Social that his order would grant TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, more time to find an approved buyer before the ban takes effect.
Millions of users woke up to the app being inaccessible, but by Sunday afternoon, a message thanked them and Trump for their support.
Despite the restored service, TikTok remained unavailable on Google and Apple’s app stores.
The ban, passed with bipartisan support, required ByteDance to sell its US operations by Sunday or face fines.
Market analysts called the shutdown a strategic move that underscored the platform’s popularity.
TikTok expressed confidence in Trump’s intervention, ensuring service providers they would not face penalties. (PNA)
