DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Kamakailan ay itinanghal ang National Day ng Pilipinas sa ginaganap ng Expo 2020 Dubai na dinaluhan ng mga matataas na opisyal ng UAE sa pangunguna ni His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, UAE Minister of State at ng ating Kagalang-galang na Ramon Lopez, Philippine Secretary of Trade and Industry, na sya ring Commissioner General ng Philippine Pavilion at tagapamuno ng Philippine Organizing Committee para sa Expo 2020 Dubai.
Sa kanyang pahayag sa National Day ceremony, maraming magandang balitang hatid si Secretary Lopez sa mga kababayan natin dito sa UAE, at maging yaong mga nasa Pilipinas at iba pang panig ng mundo. Tampok dito ang kasunduang pang-ekonomiya sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at UAE.
Ani Secretary Lopez : “In tems of investment, the UAE ranked as the 17th top source of approved investments in 2019 valued at $13.2 million. And we see this only as the beginning as we are to sign the investment promotion and protection agreement….We have also just signed the launching of discussion for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
“The signing of the Philippine-UAE Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (IPPA) intensifies the economic relations of both states as it forges deeper investment tasks. The agreement is very comprehensive. It affords more protection of UAE investment in the Philippines and vice versa.”
Nanawagan din ang opisyal na umpisahan na sa lalong madaling panahon ang mga pag-uusap sa pagitan ng UAE at ng Pilipinas na tinatawag na Joint Committee on Investment na itinatag sa ilalim ng IPPA para masimulan na ang mga investment initiatives.
“These bilateral agreements are both important and significant because they denote a commitment from both countries to work together to deepen cooperation and stimulate business initiatives on the basis of mutual benefit,” ani pa ni Secretary Lopez.
Sa ibang dako naman ng kanyang pahayag, nabanggit din ni Secretary Lopez ang mga naging kontribusyon ng mahigit 700,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) sa ekonomiya ng UAE.
“We help power not only your economy, but your lives with care and compassion, giving a deeper meaning to the word service,” aniya pa.
Higit sa lahat ay nagpasalamat din sya at hindi pinababayaan ng UAE ang mga Pilipino sa bansa.
“My sincerest thanks to the UAE government and His Highness, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan al Nayan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, for taking good care of our Filipino nationals and providing them with a safe environment to grow and prosper,” dagdag pa ng kalihim.
Nagsimulang magsidating sa UAE ang mga unang grupo ng OFWs noong 1970s na karamihan ay mga construction workers at kasambahay. Sa ngayon, ang mga Pilipino ay nasa iba’t ibang sektor ng ekonomiya – mga doktor at nurses, engineer at architekto.
Marami rin ang nasa service sector gaya ng mga nagtatrabaho sa mga restaurants at iba pa. Marami ring namamasukan bilang kasambahay na tinatayang nasa 5% ng kabuuang bilang ng mga OFWs sa UAE.
