SINABI ni Department of Migrant Workers Susan “Toots” Ople na si Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo ang hahawak ng kaso ng Pinay death convict sa Indonesia na si Mary Jane Veloso.
Ito’y matapos buhayin ang panawagan sa gobyerno ng Pilipinas, partikular na kay Pangulong Bongbong Marcos na usisain ang lagay ng kaso ni Veloso, sa kanyang state visit.
“And so by agreement, it will be the Department of Foreign Affairs that will be taking the lead primarily for two reasons: One, it has the institutional memory and knowledge from the start of the case until today,” sabi ni Ople sa press conference sa Indonesia.
Idinagdag ni Ople na mahalaga na may iisang boses lamang ang pamahalaan sa isyu.
Aniya, naibigay na niya ang sulat ng pamilya ni Veloso kay Manalo.
Ipinagtanggol naman ni Press Secretary Trixie Angeles kung bakit hindi kasama sa iskedyul ni Marcos ang pagtalakay sa isyu kay Veloso.
“For matters that are of this sensitive nature, the President will have to – how do you call this? We cannot say more, we cannot say more than that. We cannot even guess as to why, but because it is of such a sensitive nature, then we proceed with deliberation,” aniya.
